We had this past
weekend one more edition of the Olympic classes regatta. A great
number of teams gathered together to sail this great regatta -
to be more specific 141 boats in seven classes! Traditional Long
Beach southwesterly breezes made the regatta a great event.
I was there on
Thursday, the day before the regatta started. I went out with
Luther Carpenter (US Sailing coach) to check the Europe sails
and talk about future plans. It
was also an important regatta for the Finns because it was the
last qualifying event for the Olympic Team. Darrell Peck won the
regatta showing that he is back in the game after a disappointing
Winter series in Florida, however it was not enough to overcome
Geoff Ewnsome lead. Geoff is #1, Darrel #2 and Mo Hart #3 - all
powered by North. In the Europe class Meg Gaillard won showing
that she is still unbeatable. Mike Dorgan and Eric Weintraub won
the Star class in a 15 boats fleet.
