SPECIAL ONE DESIGN PROJECTS

North Sails helps MIT Sailing make an impact!!
MIT sailing master Fran Charles is a man on a mission....to pump some excitement into the world of collegiate team racing. A year and a half ago he approached us with and idea to dramatically alter the look and feel of he typical collegiate FJ sail to make more of a visual impact. At the time we made him a set of prototype sails using a metallic mylar material more often seen on windsurfing sails jumping waves off Maui on in the Gorge than seen sailing up and down on the Charles River.
A few changes to the prototype and we got down to the business of creating a complete set of new sails for the MIT's new FJ fleet. All the sails are colored mylar to match the hull colors of the new fleet. With extra large sail numbers and MIT emblems they look striking.
These sails will officially debut on May 2-3 during the Intercollegiate Semi Finals to determine the teams for the College National Team Racing Championships. This event will be held at Fan Pier Boston and be concurrent with the Boston Stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race.
Needless to say this event will bring some new exposure for college sailing and the MIT program in particular.
