I have a short question concerning
the downwind sailing with the spinnaker. Usually
this depends on the breeze and wave conditions. The lighter it is
the more you need to head up,
heel the boat to leeward (slightly) and create the wind flow across
the sails. When there is decent enough wind to keep the spinnaker full
and the main leech open, sail deeper and nearly by the lee. Heel the
boat slightly to windward to what it takes to make the helm nearly
neutral ( no tug on the tiller). You want the boat to sail straight
without using the rudder...less rudder drag is fast!! Answer by Greg Fisher
