Heidi Riddle, 2nd at the 2006 North Americans
|
North Sails' commitment to
the T-10 Class has been reconfirmed and our approach to the Class restructured.
Now, for North Sails, our One Design Group who concentrate solely on
one design classes, has become the guiding force in our T-10 effort.
As one design sailors ourselves we appreciate the importance of consistent
sail designs and perhaps more importantly, consistent personalized service.
Our new T-10 sails have been designed utilizing North exclusive
computer sail design program. The designs are, of course, then tied
to our laser cutters which ensure not only absolute smoothness, but
also provide the ability to completely and accurately reproduce identical
shapes sail after sail.
Our research this summer has shown that the T-10 needs sails that
are relatively full and powerful with the draft well forward, but extremely
straight, clean exits. The batten area on both the main and the jib
needs to be fairly flat and open with greater twist to help make the
boat easy to trim and easy to steer.
The relatively round entry in the jib is important to help make the
boat forgiving to steer and easier to keep in the "groove".
On the other hand, the jib can't be so full in the front that it becomes
too full when the headstay sag increases to the extent that it does
in the T-10 in a breeze.
We feel the spinnaker needs to be fairly flat in the upper sections
as it leaves the mast. This helps project the upper leeches open and
therefore increase the projected area. Increased fullness in the lower
sections help provide the punch for broad reaching and running but will
not compromise the sail's ability to close reach.

|
To help increase durability and smoothness in the head and
the clew, we have built the upper and lower sections of the
T-10 out of Nordac 6.5 ounce Olympic fabric. This fabric is
virtually the same weight as the 6.6 but is coated with North's
Olympic Finish which helps to lock in the designed shape and
increase the durability.
Again, The North T-10 main is powerful but with the draft
well forward and the leech straight and open. It is a very
fast sail. In critical conditions to steer and trim, it provides
the power the boat needs in light to medium winds.
The open leech also makes it easy to depower in a breeze.
- Mainsails include: numbers, insignia and sail bag.

NEW! T-10 BIG BOY KEVLAR JIB

|
A fuller, more powerful version of our proven AP Kevlar jib. Built from the same fabric as our AP Kevlar jib, the BIG Boy is designed for those T-10 sailors who sail primarily in light lumpy conditions where developing even more punch is a concern. Since the Big Boy has a fuller entry than many T -10 jibs available today not only is it easier to steer in those critical (shifty, light and/or lumpy) conditions it also provides for more forgiving tuning as it can handle a tighter rig/less headstay sag. Know how sometimes the breeze dies right at the wrong time and we're often caught with the rig a bit tighter than we'd like? The Big Boy is that jib that will help handle those situations and still sail fast!!

T-10 AP KEVLAR JIB
-
Our all-around Kevlar jib that will perform in all conditions!

-
Jib includes: window, telltales and bag.

NORTH T-10 PENTEX JIB
-
The North T-10 jib is a combination of Bainbridge Dyax
180P in the higher load areas in the back end of the sail,
and a 120P in the lower load areas in the forward sections.
-
We have had great experience with this fabric in a number
of our other one design class jib and feel, because of this
fabric's construction, it is ideal for high aspect ratio jibs
such as the T-10.
-
The North T-10 jib is quite full in the front with straight
clean exits which help maintain an open slot and reduce back
wind in the main.
- Jib includes: window, telltales and bag.

THE AP RADIAL SPINNAKER
|

|
-
Our all purpose AP Radial Spinnaker is available in Nylon
or AirX fabric.
-
While the spinnaker is a true all around performer, we have
found it is most important to optimize the sail's performance
for broad reaching and running.
-
The flatter more open upper leeches help project the shoulders
for more projected area downwind but again, as previously
mentioned, the spinnaker still close reaches quite well.
- Please note the panel layout. It is broken up into 4 different
horizontal bands which allow up to four different color selections.
|
NORTH DW-2 RUNNER SPINNAKER
|

 |
-
Both our all purpose AP Radial Spinnaker and our downwind
flyer, the NEW DW-2 Runner, are available out of .75 ounce
Challenge or AirX
fabric.
-
While the AP spinnaker is a true all around performer, performing
well both reaching and running, the DW-2 is optimized for
the more popular winward/leeward courses so often sailed
today.
-
The DW-2 is shaped well for broad reaching and running with
a relatively flatter head for more projected shoulders,
and
a deep powerful lowe section. It loves to sail deep and fast!
- Please note the panel layout for both spinnakers. It is broken
up into 4 different horizontal bands which allow up to four
different color selections.
