GREAT NEWS!
We are proud to report our
customer's success at the 2002 World Championships!
This year's Star Worlds was one
of the most competitive regattas in the past years. We had 11
past Star World champions, many other world champions and Americas
Cup skippers/sailors beyond the 103 boats that sailed the regatta.
The conditions were the usual Southern
California conditions - light/medium and choppy. The RC did a
great job putting together 6 races. The races were around 3 hours
races, so being in good shape, having great boat speed and good
starts were the key points.
The Brits Iain Percy/Steve Mitchell
sailed an outstanding series as well as second place Brazilians
Torben Grael and Marcelo Ferreira. They both had excellent boat
speed. Here's what Iain said about the last race on a interview
to the regatta press:
|
"We
were keeping our heads down before the start, so we
couldn't set up early because he'd come at us. But
we had really good speed on the first beat---really
good speed."

Also sailing a great regatta were
the San Diegans Rick Merriman and Bill Bennet. They finish fifth
place. This is Rick's first Star Worlds.
We at North Sails can't be more
proud of the results. North Sails San Diego (Rodrigo Meireles)
and North Sails UK (Paul Hobson) have put many many hours developing
these sails. Paul Hobson flew from UK to California 3 times on
the past 4 months to attend the three sailing camps held in San
Diego and Marina Del Rey. Our goal was to make our sails more
forgiving and easy to trim in all conditions. With digital imaging
and using North Sails' proprietary photo analyze softwares plus
long hours on the water we are very satisfied with the results!
