"I am happy to report that the new sails paid off- we won the 2007 Midwest Districts this weekend! We felt pretty fast- it was blowing 12-17 - we won 3 out of 4 races -a couple in pretty convincing style- that new AP-4 main definitely worked well in that medium breeze- It flattend and twisted off nicely and I just played the vang as you have been saying and we were trucking upwind and down for that matter- It was a pretty good fleet of 24 boats and we felt we had speed even on Mike Blackwood who is usually faster than us especially when it starts to blow given our light weight- we were pretty much pulling away from everyone on all points of sail!"

Our goal at North Sails One Design is to design and produce Snipe sails you can win with. Our current line up includes designs that provide the best sails for every sailor no matter where they sail or what equipment they use. Our sails are designed to be easy to set up and use, so that can concentrate on racing. We take your input seriously and lately have worked extra hard to make our sails fast and durable.

As you look over our sails for the Snipe please feel free to ask us any questions you might have. We are Snipe sailors ourselves and would be happy to discuss any aspect of Snipe sailing with you. All our sails come complete with our comprehensive Snipe Racing Guide which includes straightforward and simple information on how to set up your Snipe for great performance.

CHOOSING YOUR MAINSAIL:

Depending on the conditions that you sail, the graphic below will help you to choose the North sail(s) that is recommended for the wind range. If you have qny questions, please contact our Snipe experts.

AP-5 MAINSAIL

The AP-5 is our best light air sail. It is flatter than our other designs and is built with more twist. This sail has a wide groove and is very easy to trim. The twist makes it very easy to keep your top leech tell-tale flying in light air.

If you sail in an area that is generally very light or if your fleet refuses to sail in anything above 15 knots, this is the sail for you.

Mainsails include: Snipe insignia, sail numbers with country code, custom tapered battens, shelf foot, jib leech sighting window and roll bag.

AP-4 MAINSAIL - #1 Western Hemispheres 2006!

Jorge Murrieta and Andres Akle 1st 2007 Bacardi/Gamblin Memorial powered by
North AP-4 Main and BR-1DH Jib.

The AP-4 has the widest wind range of the sails we offer. It is also the favorite sail of the experts on the circuit. If you have to measure in only one sail or if you prefer to be on the one-mainsail program, the AP-4 is a great all-purpose sail that is great in light and heavy air and even better in the medium breeze.

This sail won the 2006 Western Hemispheres, placed 2nd and 3rd at 07 Midwinters, and was 1st place at the Bacardi/Gamblin Memorial Series.

Mainsails include: Snipe insignia, sail numbers with country code, custom tapered battens, shelf foot, jib leech sighting window and roll bag.

AP-3+ MAINSAIL

The AP-3+ has been the bread and butter for North Sails in the Snipe Class for many years; ever since Mauricio Santa Cruz won the 1997 Worlds with it.  However, this sail does struggle in the really light air.  It is a full and powerful sail that is great for medium and heavy air, but when it gets really light, it is hard to twist open the leech to keep the sail from stalling out.  This sail is recommended if you sail in heavy air venues or if you want a good heavy air option to compliment your AP-4 sail.

Mainsails include: Snipe insignia, sail numbers with country code, custom tapered battens, shelf foot, jib leech sighting window and roll bag.

BR-1D+ Dacron JIB - #1 Western Hemispheres 2006!

  • We have dramatically improved the performance of the BR-1 jib by changing the cloth in the body of the sail to a higher performance style. Until now the standard Dacron Snipe cloth has been a 2.6 oz. cloth. We have found a new fabric that weighs .5 oz. more yet stretches 25% less. This improved strength to weight ratio of this cloth really improves the performance of the sail as the breeze builds from light to heavy.

  • The BR-1D+ Jib is our All-Purpose jib that was used by team Paradeda to win the 2001 Midwinters in Cleawater.

  • The leech of the BR-1D+ has been redesigned to maximize the sail area.

  • Jibs include: fixed or adjustable luff wire, monofilm vision window, leech trimming telltale, luff telltales and roll bag.

BR-1DH Dacron JIB

  • We offer this heavier version of the above sail for sailors who sail regularly in windy locations and who want the ultimate in durability.

  • The BR-1DH is a heavy-air version of the BR-1D+.

  • Its design is the same as the BR-1D+, however made completely out of 130 cloth, this sail will deliver season's worth of great performance. If your budget allows just one jib every few years this is the sail for you.

  • It also features the new redesigned leech that maximizes sail area.

  • Jibs include: fixed or adjustable luff wire, monofilm vision window, leech trimming telltale, luff telltales and roll bag.

ZS-1 Mylar JIB

  • This is our Mylar jib. After trying many combinations of cloth we think we have arrived at the best possible design and construction for a mylar Snipe jib.

  • The body of the sail is made from a "X-Ply" cloth that is the lightest mylar cloth currently approved for use by the class.

  • The aft lower part of the sail (the part that hits the mast and shrouds when tacking) is made of a heavier mylar with more fiber content. This construction helps to increase the durability of the sail while keeping it as light as possible.

  • Jibs include: fixed or adjustable luff wire, monofilm vision window, leech trimming telltale, luff telltales and roll bag.
