MELGES 24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - FINAL RESULTS Dear All Just a very quick message to say that this afternoon Vince Brun won his second consecutive Melges World Championships! In extremely light conditions Vince held his nerve over the Italian to claim first place. My personal congratulations will I'm sure be added to by the rest of the North Sails group. Well done for a great job!
FINAL RESULTS
MELGES 24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - DAY 4
Dear All
Today's racing was delayed until approximately 3pm when a light wind finally arrived from bearing 235 degrees. Unfortunately the race was started very quickly before the wind had been allowed to settle and conditions up the first beat were mixed to say the least!
North Sails Vince Brun lost the lead of the Championship today as Giorgio Zuccoli took his second race win of the regatta, Vince managed a 9th in the tricky conditions which means all is to play for tomorrow in the final two races. I hope the conditions are good for the final show down of the 1999 event.
Other top names struggled in the tricky conditions and an awful lot of red flags were flying on the track as the race progressed, again with another late finish this report has to be short.
Results so far:
1st Overall Giorgio Zuccoli - 32 points
Kind Regards

MELGES 24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - DAY 3
North Sails own Vince Brun has finished Day 3 of the event with the same points lead over Giorgio Zuccoli as he started!! Vince and his team are 6 points clear with three races remaining.
Scoring a 6,5 in the days two races saw Vince showing amazing consistency whilst all around had a very mixed up sort of a day. Giorgio scored a 9,2 to score the same points as Vince and leave them in the same position as they left the dock this morning. Fingers crossed for Vince tomorrow and North Sails.
Race one of the day saw Jeff Madrigali demonstrating his match racing skills learnt in the Soling class to hold off a strong challenge from Argyle Campbell in a tight race sailed in 7-10 knot breeze which favoured the left side of the course. Scoring a 1,4 for the day Jeff and his team have leap frogged up into 3rd overall with a 4 point cushion over "Little" Dave Ullman who has slipped into 4th spot only 4 points clear of the UK team of Dave Johnson and Roger Peacock.
Dave and Roger have built on their 5th overall in the European Championships and are having a really good regatta so far, good luck guys for the rest of the series, go get them!!
Sailing with Tony "Two Tack" and the Snickers Workwear Team we had a mixed up sort of a day, scoring a 3,22 still actually moved us up the ladder to 9th spot and still only 3 points off 6th place, so all is still to play for!
With 6 of the top 9 boats using North Sails it is very apparent that the new look Bainbridge "Blue" Pentex is proving a winner, the sails are proving fast and at a conservative estimate at least 60% of the fleet are using North Sails.
Good Luck to all of our customers tomorrow in the penultimate day of the event. More to follow later,
Kind Regards

MELGES 24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - DAY 2
Dear All
Just a very quick report today as we had three races and were very late finishing!
In a nut shell North Sails Vince Brun had a great day scoring a 10,5,1 to lead the regatta now by 6 points from Giorgio Zuccoli from Italy. Vince is looking good at the half way stage of the regatta and we wish him well for the remaining 5 races.
Giorgio had an OK sort of a day scoring a 12,17, 3 to finish the day in second overall spot with 20 points including one discard.
A new name top the front of the grid is Bob Tennant who has been slipping in some very consistent results except for the last race today, he currently has 28 points and is only one point clear of Dave Ullman in 4th spot.
On Snickers Workwear we had a really average day scoring a 14,34,11 to end the day in 10th overall which is very disappointing. Three bad starts and a 720 off the line in race 2 saw us having trouble getting out of our own way!! Still we are only 12 points off 3rd overall so there is still allot to play for.
Highlight of the day for the UK squad was Roger Peacock & Dave Johnson and his team taking first place in race 2 of the day by a country mile!! Taking the lead from the first mark he extended throughout the race to win by approximately 2 minutes in fine style! Capping this with a 5th place in race 3 the "Loaded" Team have leapt into 6th overall for the regatta, well done guys, nice job as they say in the States!!
Sorry for such a short and low quality report but time is short tonight.
Kind Regards
Nigel Young
MELGES 24 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - DAY 1
Day one of the Melges 24 Worlds brought very light winds and and zero wind! After about a one hour delay racing for the 55 boats got underway in a light South-westerly wind.
The Pre-Worlds was won by Brian Porter in Full Throttle and these guys were one of the favourites for this regatta, unfortunately for them a premature start in race one ment they could only record a top 30 finish having returned and restarted in the light conditions. They set the record straight for race two and after a battle with the World Famous Tony "Two Tack" Wetherell and Vince Brun they won the second race sailed in a building breeze.
At the front in race one were Giorgio Zuccoli from Italy and Dave Ullman from California. A close race ensued for this pair with the Italian finally getting the upper hand. The race was close to the end between seven or eight boats but the Italian had the upper hand to take the winning gun. Dave Ullman was second in race one and then suffered the same problem as the Porter Brothers and was over the line at the start. After returning Dave sailed a flawless race to get back to 9th place at the end of race two.
Another Hot boat and finally winning the boat of the day trophy was Giorgio Zuccoli, having a run of poor results recently it was a surprise to see him at the front today. Sailing very smartly to win the first race Giorgio finished a solid 4th in race two to be over night leader for day one.
North Sails Vince Brun, current holder of the Melges 24 World Title started his defence well finishing the day in second place scoring a 6,2 in today's races. Having tuned with Vince over the last two days I am pleased to report that the latest generation of Melges Sails are really on the pace. Having worked with Vince and built his designs over the last few years it is nice to see all the hard work paying off.
In this regatta I am sailing again with Dave Clark, Tony "Two Tack" Wetherell and Matt Drake, the latter who has flown in from Sydney Australia for the event. We have picked up a brand new boat for the event and after a few days of training and preparing the boat we are ready to start our winter season across the pond.
Scoring a 12,3 today and leading race two for at least 1 of the three round we are happy with our pace. Lying 5th overall after day 1 we have room for improvement but feel happy that all the preparation will stand us in good stead for the rest of the week.
Results Day 1
1st - Overall ITA-139 - Giorgio Zuccoli
Well that's all for today, another report of the racing will follow tomorrow,
Kind Regards
Nigel Young
