Lehman 12

NORTH 1ST AT THE 2009 BARNEY LEHMAN CHAMPIONSHIP! Report by Brian Bissell The Barney Lehman Championship is the class championship for the Lehman 12.  It was held last weekend at Newport Harbor Yacht Club.  There were participants from as far away as San Diego.  The fleet was fairly small but about half of the participants were former Collegiate All-Americans so the competition was fierce.  Jon Pinckney sailing with his wife Gale, and using a North Lehman sail for the first time, bested the fleet by 21 points!!!!  “Your sail is fast.  I had really bad starts all weekend long.  I don’t know what got into me, but I couldn’t get off the line.  Every race I was able to grind back through the fleet and post good scores.  If I had good starts, I think I would have won by even more.” -- Jon Pinckney
